Cambridge Link-Up – homeless people making things happen ..

Cambridge Link-Up is a fully constituted street community group led by homeless, ex-homeless and vulnerably housed people.
We believe that homeless people are a massively untapped resource of skills, creativity, knowledge and experience able to contribute positively to their community.

Cambridge Link-Up listens closely to the views of homeless people and sets out to find creative solutions to gaps in current homelessness services.
By setting up as a group we are able to represent the views homeless people to partner agencies and local/national policy makers.

Cambridge Link-up raises funds for activities that build self-esteem, improve self-confidence and empower homeless people to make their own path towards integration with mainstream society.

The Cambridge Link-Up committee is currently working on preparations for our

Official Launch on April 1st (it’s not a joke) at 222 Victoria Rd.

So put that date in your diary – don’t be a fool – be there!

We are developing a range of products for our Sunday Market Stall – if you have ideas for products or want to get involved with making things for the stall please get in touch. We are also collating responses to our questionnaire – it’s not too late to take part so please follow the questionnaire link on this website to add your views.

Cambridge Link-Up Activities - what we (want to) do …

Cambridge Link Up Awards

An award scheme for individual homeless people (and groups working with homeless people) to support their involvement in meaningful activity in Cambridge.
Most individual grants will be under £100 and will come from Link-Up fundraising.
For larger projects, Link-Up is most likely to help by offering support in making a funding application.

Examples:

A homeless person living at 222 is given an award to buy a guitar so that he can practise as part of his involvement with the Street Voices singing group.
Link-Up helps the Homeless Truths programme team to apply for a grant to help them buy their own recording equipment.

Cambridge Link Up Sunday Market Stall

A monthly market stall selling “homeless-made” products with an emphasis on creative recycling, trash-to-treasures and arts/crafts.
The stall will also stock products from other homeless projects such as Street Voices CD, artwork from Art Wednesdays, produce from Roots ‘n Shoots.
All funds raised by the stall will generate money for the Cambridge Link-Up Award Scheme – anyone who has created work for the stall or has contributed their time to the running of the stall will be eligible to apply for an award.

Cambridge Link Up Workshop

A drop-in base where homeless people can access resources, materials and equipment to make products for the Market Stall.
A range of products will enable all skill levels to participate – the workshop will be open to ideas for new products.
Cambridge Link-Up members will be on hand to offer informal advice and support drawing on their first hand experience of homelessness in Cambridge.

Cambridge Link Up Network

We are building partnerships with other agencies working with homeless people and making sure that homeless people’s views are represented at a local and national policy making level.

Our website provides information about local homelessness services as well as forum where homeless people can seek advice and exchange information with each other,
In the longer term we hope to get involved with education in prisons, schools, youth groups and awareness raising to challenge the media stereotype of homeless people..

Cambridge Link-Up Special Projects Responding to ideas from the Street Community we will run special projects that provide creative solutions to gaps in current provision.

Current project ideas:
Pet – Sitting Service
Memorial Garden at 222
Street Voices CD
24/7 rehab retreat
