We believe that homeless people are a massively untapped resource of skills, creativity, knowledge and experience
able to contribute positively to their community.
Cambridge Link-Up is a fully constituted street community group
led by homeless, ex-homeless and vulnerably housed people.

The Memorial Garden

In the last year the Cambridge homeless community suffered a shocking number of deaths (over twenty people passed away, many of them young and from overdoses shortly after detox treatment).

We have since been raising funds to create a Memorial Garden on land donated by ECHG at their hostel at 222 Victoria Rd. With the support of Streetsmart, the Cambridgeshire Foundation, Travis Perkins, Marshalls Paving and a dedicated team of homeless volunteers who have worked incredibly hard in the last few weeks - we now have a landscaped garden including a water feature, lighting, paving, fencing and 6 railway sleeper pillars which will bear individual brass name plaques commemorating the lives of homeless people who have died in Cambridge in recent years ...

This garden is intended to be a respectful and dignified place where homeless people can process their grief and remember lost loved ones.

Each brass plaque will cost £10 (this is a special rate) - we have consulted with the community and they have asked us to include the names of nearly 80 people.

Plants are also needed for the garden: large shrubs (not trees), climbing shrubs such as honeysuckle to cover the fences that run round two sides of the garden, spring flowering bulbs such as: snowdrops, daffodils, tulips, crocus, bluebells, and ground cover perennials such as heathers etc

Cambridge Link-Up very much hope that you will want to support this venture either by making a donation towards the cost of the plaques or by buying or bringing plants and bulbs from your own garden to 222 Victoria Rd, Cambridge CB4 3LG

You can send a cheque made out to
Cambridge Link-Up to 222 Mill Rd, Cambridge CB1 3NF
or you can donate securely online via Paypal to the right.

I am surprised that there is no tribute to Trevor who was often to be found at the fountain in market square I am sure that many many people in Cambridge remember him especially the older members of the Cambridge City Police Force. I always think of him with affection.
